The officers of the PTA are always available to answer questions, give information, or help resolve problems.  We will be happy to assist parents in any way possible, and our goal is to be readily available when needed.  Please do not hesitate to call any of us at the numbers listed above.

In order to introduce ourselves and help families get to know us on a more personal level, we have prepared short biographies which follow.

Debbie Peace – President

I have been a member of St. Paul Parish since 1980.  My husband, Mike, and I were married here 13 years ago this past May.  We have four children.  Amanda (11) will be in 6th grade this 2005/2006 school year, Nicholas (9) will be in the 3rd grade, Noah (7) will be in the 2nd grade, and Alexis (5) will be in Kindergarten.

I’ve been employed as an RN at Jewish Hospital for 16 years.  Mike has been owner and operator of Peace Contracting for 15 years.  I graduated from Angela Merici in 1982 and went on to Spalding University where I graduated with my BSN.  Mike is a 1978 graduate of PRP.

I like tI like to do all kinds of crafts, such as cross-stitch, crocheting, and knitting, and I love to read.  Mike is involved with boys and Boy Scouts and loves to play computer games in his spare time.  We enjoy swimming with our kids, camping, playing board games, and just spending quality time together.

As president of St. Paul’s PTA I hope to make it a friendly, welcoming organization that parents of St. Paul will want to be involved with.  I would like to encourage every family to feel free to offer suggestions and ideas to help make St. Paul an even better school.

Stephanie Corbett – Vice President

Brian, Haylee, and I have been members of St. Paul Parish for a little over a year.  Haylee will be 7 years old in September and in the 2nd grade this school year.

I have been in inside sales at Drywall and Building Supply Co. for 7 years, and Brian is a Master Electrician at Fort Knox.  We both went to St. Clement School through the 8th grade and then attended public high schools. (Brian - PRP class of ’89 and myself -Seneca class of ’88)

As a family, we enjoy movies, amusement parks, and riding our motorcycles (Haylee, too) when we get a chance.  Brian likes to customize motorcycles and is currently building a chopper.  Haylee and I like to scrapbook in our spare time. Haylee is a Brownie scout and is in her second year of Taekwondo.  She aspires to be a martial arts instructor.

As Vice President, I hope to help make St. Paul’s PTA an approachable, user-friendly source of information, support, and inspiration for families with students enrolled here.  I would like for every family to feel comfortable enough to come to us with any questions, comments, or suggestions you may have, and I encourage you to do so.

I also hope to help promote St. Paul’s School within our community.  As the last of a dying breed, we should be proud and thankful that our school has had the support and resources necessary to remain self-sufficient.  This is no time to take our strong position for granted.  We need to make a concerted effort to promote our school and to secure our future in the community.

Kay Burris – Secretary

My husband, John, and I have two children; Wyatt will be in 2nd grade, and Olivia will be in the 1st grade.  John is a graduate of U of L, and I am a graduate of Spalding University.  John works as a supervisor in the Riverport, and I work part-time at a travel agency.  We love to go boating, swimming, skiing, and other water sports.

I hope the PTA can be a welcoming committee for new families to our school.  I would hope that we can find new ways for others to get involved and feel included.  I hope the PTA can grow in size and be a meeting that people look forward to attending.

I would like to think that the PTA could come up with new ideas for raising money.  I think the uniform swap is a good idea.  I also think the more “welcome” people are made to feel when they come to school, the more they will get involved.

Darlene Krider – Treasurer

My name is Darlene Krider, and I am beginning my second year as St. Paul PTA Treasurer.  I am currently employed at St. Paul as a Paraeducator for grades 3 and 4.  Formerly, I worked in the banking industry for 25 years.  My husband, Larry, and I have been members of St. Paul Parish for 16 years.

We have a 21-year-old son named Ricky Lewis, who graduated from St. Paul in 1998.  We also have two daughters. Our eldest daughter, Hayley Krider, will be entering 6th grade this year, and our youngest daughter, Morgan Krider, will be entering 2nd grade.

We always knew we wanted our children to have the best possible education with a strong background in Christian morals.  When looking for a church and school to help us achieve this, we knew that the St. Paul Catholic community would award our children just that, since it has been in existence for over 150 years.

Here at St. Paul we have an absolutely awesome teaching and support staff committed to making sure that our students realize their potential and achieve their goals.  Since we are now the last “stand-alone” Parish/School in the South End, the St. Paul PTA is equally committed to our students, teachers, support staff, and school families alike.  We want everyone to feel like they are a significant part of our wonderful parish/school, and will do everything in our power to see that they do.  This, in turn, will award St. Paul the ability to continue to exist for many, many years to come.  It takes each and every one of us.

If you ever want to contact me for any reason, I can be reached at school by leaving a message, or you can reach me at my home phone number.  Please call any time!

At this point, I would like to say welcome back to all of our returning families, but more importantly, I’d like to extend a warm WELCOME to our new families!  I hope everyone had a safe, rested summer.  We have a lot of exciting fundraisers, activities, and incentives planned for the coming school year, and I look forward to working side by side with you and getting to know all of you.  Again, WELCOME!!!!

HOW TO GET THE MOST

OUT OF YOUR PTA

The Parent Teacher Association consists solely of school staff  and parents of students enrolled at St. Paul; therefore, the success or failure of the PTA and its programs is directly dependent on the support of parent and teacher volunteers.  Our main goal this year is to strengthen the PTA program so that we can accomplish more for our students.  Without a strong volunteer base, we cannot even begin to advance toward this goal.  In the long run, the only people that are hurt by the lack of volunteers are our children.  On the other hand, a strong and active PTA can accomplish any number of things that will directly benefit the students.

We need your input, ideas, time, talents, and even criticism to make this program work and truly be beneficial to all involved.  The officers greatly appreciate your involvement, but more importantly, everything you do to help out will, in turn, benefit you and your child(ren). This is truly an instance where we reap what we sow!

We ask that every family review the list of PTA Committees in this booklet and note which one(s) you would be interested in chairing or volunteering for.  Please note your choices on the form on the back of this booklet and send to school with your child on the first day of school.  Some committees are active year-round and some are seasonal.  There are committees for all personality types and schedules.  If you don’t find a committee that fits your lifestyle, Mrs. Basham always needs help in the supply store at school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m.  Stick around for a half hour after you drop off your child and get to know some of the students/staff by volunteering!
